Waltham Forest Leisure Centre is on track to open in autumn 2016.
Built on the former site of Waltham Forest Pool and Track, the new facility, called Waltham Forest Leisure Centre, will be built next to the athletics track off Chingford Road.
The project will make the centre one of the largest health and sports centres in London. It will feature a 25 metre, eight-lane competition pool, with 250 seats ensuring spectators get a good view of the action when the pool is used for gala events. A teaching pool and two diving boards of one and three metres will also feature.
The new gym will have 132 pieces of equipment, whereas the old centre contained 47 and a new four-court sports hall and outdoor floodlit artificial sports pitch will be used for ball-games.
An extreme sports zone will feature a climbing wall and skateboard and BMX areas, and both wet and dry health and wellbeing spa areas as part of the SPA London brand.
Waltham Forest Leisure Centre is the last of the borough’s leisure centres to receive an overhaul.
