An international food specialist based in Walthamstow has achieved its fundraising objectives by raising £50,000 for five international charities.
The award-winning company, Wanis International Foods, has been based in Waltham Forest for 50 years and imports more than 8,000 food products from all over the world. It launched the fundraising campaign to mark the anniversary.
The African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust, Guru Nanak Trust, Home for the Disabled, Leyton Orient Community Sports Programme, St Anne’s Church in Greenwich Town, Jamaica and Waltham Forest Cinema Trust are the beneficiaries of the scheme.
Managing director of Wanis International Foods, Sanjay Wadhwani, said: “We would like to thank everyone who has helped us to meet this pledge. We saw a lot of running, cycling and baking, as well as some very generous donations towards this campaign.
“We are truly thankful to everyone who took part, because this money will help these charities make a positive difference to individuals and communities; locally, nationally and internationally.”
Wanis was recently invited to present a cheque to one of the charities, the Leyton Orient Trust, at half time during a Leyton Orient home game.
